Speed Fiend -- Review

Category: card games
Price: $0.99
App Store Link: [Full] / [Free Lite Version]

Review: Like it
Recommendation: If you're a fan of the card game Speed, this game is worth the $0.99. If you've never played Speed or are skeptical, try the free version.
Replay Value: High

The Touch platform is perfect for an incarnation of the "classic" card game Speed, and Speed Fiend proves it. Just like in the real game, players must race against their opponent (either AI or another person) to empty their 17-card hand into either of two piles on the playing field and must be played in ascending or descending order (e.g. 2-3-4-5-4-3-4-5-6). Speed (and Speed Fiend) is a fast-paced game with no turns; players simply play their hands as quickly as possible.

Where Speed Fiend really shines is in its simple and intuitive touch controls. Players must tap the starting cards to "flip them," drag their cards to the pile before their opponent, and tap the deck to refill their hand. Simply put, this app actually feels like your playing the original card
game.

The full version includes 9 skill levels, one and two-player modes, and a few choices for card backings. The app is very well done, I think fans of the classic "Speed" will be hard pressed to find a better, more realistic version. Highly enjoyable.
